Here's the tutorial that was posted on the other forum we belong to... many thanks to PupDog for doing this...
So your account was approved and now you don't know what to do next! Have no fear, we are here to help!
Here are a few ways to set your profile up just the way you like it.
1. Editing your profile
Click on the Edit Profile button to change your information
You will find a variety of things you can edit within your profile using the tabs
2. Avatar - to change your profile photo (or Avatar as it is called here) -
You have four options -
Use only your Default Avatar - that is the Default Avatar shown on the far right. This can be modified by clicking the Edit Avatar below the photo (only Make or Female avatars are available, no Dogs or Cats).
Use only the Uploaded/Linked - this one is where you upload a photo to use as your profile photo. More on how to do this below.
Combine them, use the Uploaded/Linked as a background for your Default Avatar - here, you would use the cartoon avatar on top of a photo you upload.
No Avatar - this shows no image on the forums.
Use the radio button next to your choice and click Save Avatar Changes
To upload a photo to use as your profile photo, click the Upload/Linked link in option 2 above, which opens a pop up window like this -
To Upload a photo from your computer click the Select Image button.
To use a photo from Photobucket, ImageShack, etc. paste the URL in the box and click the Link Image button
Click Save Avatar Changes to save your photo as your avatar.
3. Changing Personal Information
Here is where you change the following -
Display Name - the name used in the Forums
Email address - the Email address to contact you
Password
Gender
Location
Website Name - The name of your website, blog, etc.
Website URL - A link to your website, blog, etc.
Most Recent Status - This status appears under your avatar in the forums.
Signature - This appears at the bottom of all your forums posts.
Personal Notes - Visible only to you
Click Save Personal Settings to save your changes.
4. Linking to your other Social Media sites
Here you can add your Facebook, Google+, Twitter and IM links to other profiles you use on the internet. Add the URL's from those sites into the boxes. Use the Test Link to ensure it opens the proper page.
Click Save Social Settings to save your changes.
5. Settings Tab
This is where you set your preferences for the following -
Show Participated - This gives you a notification at the top right of your screen when there is a new post in a forum you made a post in.
Show Signatures - This shows ALL signatures of users on posts in the forums.
Show Avatars - This shows ALL avatars for users in the forum.
Forum Theme - Default is the only option at this time.
Enable Drafts - Saves a copy of your post while you are typing.
Posting Default - The Preview Editor allows you to write your posts and add styles to it like you would when using a traditional word processor. The BBCode Editor allows members to stylize their posts using BBCode tags rather than getting a real preview representation of the post.
Smiles Default - Displays smiles (if you do not see a smiley here, then you have this disabled).
Dates and Times - Set your preference for how date and time are displayed in the forums
Delete Account - To remove yourself from the forum
Click Save Account Settings to save your changes.
6. Privacy Tab
This one is important! Change your privacy settings to what you are comfortable with.
You can change the following items -
Who can view my profile - Everyone means you are visible to all forum members, Members Only means only those registered with Dogster and Catster Friends forum can see you.
Invisible - If Yes is selected all forum members can see you are online. If No is selected users will not know you are online.
Email Visibility - Drop down menu for where you want your E-mail to appear.
Gender Visibility - Shows your gender on your profile and forums.
Birthday Visibility - Drop down menu for how you want your birthday shown.
Change Birthday - click the check box and a drop down will appear to change the birthday you entered when you signed up.
Activity - Shows your activity within the forums to others.
Member Block list - Enter the forum username of any participant you wish to block. They will not be able to see your activity or posts and you will not be able to see theirs.
Click Save Privacy Settings button to save your changes.
7. Notifications Tab
Hate the flood of Email? Or want to get an Email for everything? Well this is your tab!
Click the boxes to enable or disable notifications on your profile and via E-mail -
Forum notifications appear at the top of your page here - a number shows to alert you to the notification - this is telling me I have 3 P mails!
By selecting Email boxes, you will receive an Email each time the activity you selected Email for occurs.
Click Save Notification Settings to save your changes.
8. Badges
This tab is to purchase badges that appear on your profile. these cost money, no Zealies here so we are not going to go into how to do this for this tutorial.
There you have it! You have set up your profile and are ready to go post in the forums!
